I’ve been hearing some disapproval about “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” (October, in case you’re living under a rock and haven’t heard xD). My question is, why does it have to be “awareness”? Why do people just have to be “aware”? Many people were “aware” of Haiti, few did anything about it.
What about “Support Cancer Victims Month”? What about “Cancer Prevention Month”? What about “Donate-Some-of-Your Typically-Wasted-Cash-To-Dying-Children-Month”?
I know, the last one made my stomach drop a little. Guess why. Go ahead, guess.
Cause I don’t do it either. Cause I can talk like nobody’s business, but when it comes down to it, I like spending money on myself.
So next month, November, when I will have a little cash, I’m making a decision.
I’m sitting here nervously picking at my nails thinking about it. xD
Okay. The decision. Next month, I will pick a charity for children suffering from cancer (and I warn you, the charity could be a natural-healing one, which I believe to have more merit than organizations bent on pushing dangerous chemotherapy), and I will donate $10… but that’s not the part I want you to pay attention to.
For every person who comments on this post and promises to donate any amount of money up from a dollar, I will donate an extra $1. Doesn’t sound like much, and if no one comments and no one donates, it won’t be. But if you send this to your friends, if you post this on Facebook… it’ll start to add up. People will start to pay attention. It’s not about awareness. It’s about stopping cancer in its tracks. It’s about helping kids heal.
So if everyone ignores this post, no big deal. I’m out $10 and the 20 minutes it took me to write this. But if you listen, and you donate a tiny bit of money to kids who many have nothing at all, we could be unstoppable.
